Water in lubricating oil
Oil dehydration removes water contamination from oil. NATCOM assesses the lubricant and system, selects a compatible treatment and checks the oil again against an agreed target.
Visible water, milky oil or a rising moisture result needs investigation. Removing water is only part of the response: a leaking cooler, wet storage or another entry point can undo the cleanup.
This service focuses on industrial hydraulic and lubricating oils. Confirm the fluid identity first. Some hydraulic fluids are formulated with water and should not be treated as contaminated mineral oil.
Start with oil analysis
The form of water matters when choosing equipment and interpreting a sample.

Small water droplets dispersed through the oil. They can make it hazy or milky. A stable emulsion can be harder to separate, so appearance alone does not establish the treatment.
Water held within the oil without visible droplets. Clear oil can still contain it. Removing visible water does not demonstrate that dissolved moisture has reached a suitable level.
A clear sample is not a water-content measurement. Take a representative sample and record the oil temperature and sampling point before deciding that treatment is complete.

Water-absorbent filtration and depth-media conditioning suit many free-water and entrained-water applications. Dissolved water and specialist fluids may require a different moisture-control method.

Defined before treatment
NATCOM records the starting condition, sets the acceptance target and selects the equipment from the oil volume, water condition, viscosity and operating constraints.
The before-and-after samples use the same test method and representative sampling point. A follow-up sample after return to service shows whether water is entering the system again.
Explore Oil AnalysisReview the lubricant, operating temperature and water result. Identify the likely entry point, such as a cooler leak, condensation or wet transfer equipment.
Set the target and measurement method. Match the unit, elements, flow and connections to the fluid, reservoir and site access.
Treat through an agreed external loop or transfer arrangement. Check filter loading and water readings, and record element changes and operating conditions.
Compare samples taken by a consistent method. Document the result and agree follow-up sampling to check whether water returns.
Parts per million, or ppm, expresses water concentration. Relative saturation shows how close the oil is to the amount of water it can hold in dissolved form at that temperature. These readings are not interchangeable.
Oil type, condition and temperature affect that capacity. Use a suitable water test, such as Karl Fischer analysis where appropriate, and interpret any moisture-sensor reading with its method and temperature recorded.
Particle cleanliness is a separate measurement and needs its own target.
Drying the oil does not restore depleted additives or establish that the machine is undamaged. Use oil analysis to assess lubricant condition alongside water.
Presses and hydraulic power units. Establish whether the fluid is intended to contain water before proposing dehydration.
Lubrication reservoirs where moisture must be assessed alongside particle cleanliness and oil condition.
Industrial drives where thick oil and low treatment temperatures can restrict flow through a water-removal unit.
