Clean the oil without guessing

Particles and water do not always mean the oil must be replaced. NATCOM measures the starting condition, agrees the required cleanliness and water targets, then selects a portable or fixed treatment loop for the oil system.

Filtration is not a cure for every oil problem. Oxidation, viscosity change, depleted additives and soluble varnish need different tests and may need a different response. The condition of the oil decides the work.

The job ends with a second measurement, not an assumed result.

When to investigate the oil

These signs justify a representative sample. They do not, by themselves, decide the treatment.

Poor particle cleanliness

A high or rising ISO 4406 code can point to contamination ingress, wear debris or inadequate control at transfer and storage points.

Water in the oil

Visible haze, free water or a high measured water level calls for the water form, source and safe treatment method to be established.

Filters loading too quickly

Short filter life can indicate continued ingress, accumulated contamination or a filter arrangement that is not matched to the duty.

Sticking hydraulic controls

Particles or water may contribute to valve and servo problems, but the oil data and machine symptoms must be read together before treatment.

Measure, treat and verify

The starting condition sets the target and the equipment. The same measurements then confirm what changed.

    Define the oil system

    Record the oil type, reservoir volume, viscosity, temperature, access points, operating duty and equipment requirements.

    Measure the baseline

    Take a representative sample and establish particle cleanliness and water condition. Add oil-health tests when the evidence calls for them.

    Treat the contamination

    Select the flow, filter media and water-removal method, then circulate the oil through a separate treatment loop where the site allows it.

    Verify the result

    Sample again from an agreed point, compare the same measurements and document the result against the target set before treatment.

ISO 4406 reports particle cleanliness. Water is measured separately, often in parts per million or percentage saturation. Oil-health tests are also needed when the question is whether the oil remains fit for use.

For water-contaminated oils, Filtertechnik's manufacturer specifications for the Neptune range list models from 15 to 100 litres per minute and specify free and entrained water removal to below 100 ppm. NATCOM selects the model from the oil volume, viscosity, starting water level and treatment target.

Hydraulic oil reached both cleanliness and water targets

Filtertechnik's published account covers about 900 litres of ISO VG 32 oil serving hydraulic press systems at Commonwealth Steel in Indonesia. The initial oil condition was ISO 21/19/16 with 800 ppm water.

PT Kelmer used two HIPPO filter pots in parallel as a portable external loop. Filtertechnik reports that the oil reached ISO 13/12/8 and 50 ppm water after a two-day cleanup.

Choose the right response

Start with what is actually in the oil

Similar machine symptoms can come from different oil problems. The test result separates the work filtration can do from the work it cannot.
